Barriers to Going Solar
By Christian Lazzarini
When it comes down to the bottom line, affordable solar energy seems like a paradox to many home owners. In recent years financing incentives have made solar energy affordable for most homes, however the concept still seems foreign. Take for example my own parents: they have owned their house for fifteen years, they recycle twice a week, and do their best to reduce their impact on the environment. They are ecologically conscious home owners living in Southern California, an area that has a superb capability for solar energy. However, when I asked them if they had ever thought about installing a solar energy system for their home, they said it had never even crossed their minds. This has become the biggest barrier to residential solar power today; even educated home owners do not realize it as a feasible possibility. This has emerged as the main barrier to solar energy as the financial costs have come down considerably. The perception of solar power as prohibitively expensive is what keeps environmentally conscious and educated home owners from choosing solar power for their own homes. However, the reality is that solar power has become affordable for residential properties and will also boost the equity of your home. It will save you money and help reduce your carbon footprint.
Coming up soon will be a scenario showing how cost effective solar is. It will cover a scenario for a typical home owner looking to go change to solar power and the steps they should take in order to get there as quickly and efficiently as possible. Stay tuned!
